We’re in the middle of a pandemic, and the social media is filled with all the fancy self-care quotes. Without self-love, one tends to suffer from stress and constant exhaustion. In spite of knowing the importance, it can get pretty challenging to pamper ourselves. Understandable, as we’re never really taught to prioritize ourselves. Nevertheless, It’s time to learn to love ourselves just the way we love our friends and family.
What is self-care?
Most of us more or less know what self-love is, but fail to understand the concept in its totality. It is more than just getting yourself some branded clothes and shoes. We all have our own unique ways of feeling happy. And, there no single form of self-care that works for everyone. If you’re unsure of where you want to get started here are some of the most proven ways to nurture yourself.
Get some downtime for yourself: Make sure you get some ‘Me-time’, every single day. This time should be reserved for focusing on your needs and your desires. You can do anything you like, go for a walk, do yoga, meditation, make yourself some cookies, or opt for gardening. These activities will help you develop a better relationship with your inner self.
Forgive Yourself: Sometimes, we tend to be really hard on ourselves. We aim for that unreal perfection. That ain’t happening. Besides, it is our imperfections and flaws that form a very important part of our lives. So own your flaws, just the way you own your talents.
Celebrate all your wins, big and small: Big goals are nothing but a collection of multiple small goals. Celebrating these little wins gives us the courage to keep going. Not only that, appreciating these tiny achievements helps us have higher self-esteem, and thereby makes us feel more worthy.
Surround yourself with people who love you: Human life is too short to be dealing with toxic people. If someone makes you feel miserable, you probably do not need them in your life. All of us deserve to have someone cheering us through our journey, to celebrate our wins and help us through tough times.
Be realistic: Do not expect your life to be perfect. Nobody is happy all the freaking time. We all make mistakes, land up in trouble, and screw up at times. And that is okay. This attitude of being realistic helps one in ways beyond imagination.
Take care of your physical health: This area comprises taking care of your health, eating well-balanced meals, exercising regularly, and, staying hydrated. Keep your body well-nourished. It is important to be in good shape to stay happy.
Accept compliments with grace: It might sound like a piece of very obvious advice. But, there are quite a few people out there who simply cannot believe or accept a compliment. They constantly doubt anything good they’re told. It is time to let this self-doubt go. When people praise you, believe in them, believe in yourself, and be grateful for the interaction.
