“I have an insane sweet tooth”, “let me just get one more slice of that cheesecake”, “can you buy me chocolate on your way home”. Are these familiar? Totally. Many of us knowingly or unknowingly are victims of sugar craving. It is basically an uncontrolled, intense urge to eat something sugary. The reasons could be genetic, or lifestyle-induced, nevertheless here are some super easy tips to outsmart your sugar cravings.

Drink some water: This may seem ridiculously simple, so are most of the solutions. Dehydration is probably one of the most common causes of sugar craving. So before reaching out for an afternoon treat, have some water. There is a possibility you will be more satisfied than you would be with that donut.

Keep your kitchen shelves junk-free: It is impossible to not reach out for your favorite foods if they are accessible. So if you keep your house stuffed with sweets you are asking for trouble. Instead replace the junk with healthy items, that way you will have those fruits, veggies and whole-grain dishes within reach to take care of your hunger pangs.

Have a balanced meal plan: Eat several small, healthy meals spaced throughout the day. Staying hungry for a very long time disrupts normal blood sugar levels leading to sugar craving. Also, have your cheat days and enjoy junk in moderation. Completely giving up on those can cause a rebound which is a problem more difficult to solve.

Exercise early in the morning: Exercise routine has umpteen benefits one of which is helping with the sugar craving. One interesting reasoning for this is, that after spending so much time and energy for that workout you will hesitate to ruin all the efforts with just that one scoop of your favorite chocolate ice-cream.

Do not go for the weekly supermarket trip hungry: One of the most useful tactics, as the journey of that sugar-laden pie starts from the mall shelf to the kitchen and then finally in your stomach. It is proven that when you are hungry, you tend to overshop and make unhealthy choices. To add to that all the junk is kept at your eye level in the supermarket. So just grab a quick meal before the shopping trip.

Bonus tip: Above all have a good night’s sleep, a healthy routine, and a stress-free mind, pursue some hobbies and yes do gift yourself occasional treats to have a more wholesome experience of this little word called life.
