No one ever said parenting is easy. It leaves you with no time to do things which you did earlier. Let exercise not be one of them. With kids on board, it gets even more important that they see you be physically active. It will not only help you stay fit but establish the concept of healthy living in their little minds. And the best way to do this is to get fit together. Here are a few of my favorite ideas for a fun workout together.
Have a dance party every weekend: This is a very dear activity to me, as this has been the family ritual for me since I was a baby. Also, this is working amazingly well for Aarav and Kiara(my niece and nephew, who I babysit often). Elder ones who know the music might sing along, while the younger ones will adorably try to mimic you and the elder siblings. You can also get a few glow in the light sticks to add the disco element.
Grow some plants together: There is some activity for every age group when it comes to gardening. From sowing seeds to watering them, picking out the weeds and mowing the lawn, all of them need you to get moving and serve as an excellent family bonding time. Go for some herbs and veggies that you use routinely for cooking, it will help the family eat more organic too.
Have a post-dinner walk: Anyday a better idea than going and resting your bums on that couch with all the eyes glued to the T.V. Discuss your day while walking, pick up random conversations with your children and you’ll forever be a closely-knit family. And a healthy one too.
Plan a new fitness activity every Sunday morning: Pick up some interesting activities to spend your Sunday mornings and make them different every time. You can choose anything, swimming, cycling, football, or hopscotch, whatever you feel like. Let kids choose their favorites. You’ll be surprised at how much your children will look forward to this ritual.
Introduce walking and cycling early in life: Out of milk? going to get some? use a bike. When your kids see you take it out for mundane tasks they will do that too. Cycling can be a Sunday family ritual too. Every Sunday morning I and my husband go cycling, and while we are at it, we have some competitions too. You can go wild with your imagination.
Play jump ropes and hula hoops: These are fun, they help in fitness, hardly need half an hour, can be done by all age groups( in different ways), and never get boring. There is every reason for all the parents to invest in these toys. Hula hoops can be used for tummy workouts and arm toning alike. And rope-skipping has so many variations, try a lot of them and do not forget to share this article with your friends and family now!!
